#KidsCantWait: Valerina’s Journey
Valerina was born a healthy baby, bringing joy and happiness to our family. However, around 15 months old, we noticed that her pinky was swollen. Concerned, we took her to many doctor appointments, hoping to find an answer. Despite their efforts, we were left without a diagnosis.
Each morning, Valerina would wake up crying, seeking comfort in our arms. One morning, her condition worsened; her knee was completely swollen and warm to the touch, rendering her unable to walk. We rushed her to the Montreal Children’s Hospital, where, within a few hours, we received a diagnosis (JIA). At the time she had 8 joints affected.
The diagnosis brought a mix of emotions, but with the incredible support and expertise of the wonderful nurses and our rheumatologist, we gained a much better understanding of JIA. With this newfound knowledge, we began her treatment.
Since starting treatment, Valerina has shown remarkable improvement. She is no longer in pain and is managing her condition very well. As of today, Valerina is pain-free and she continues to thrive. We are very grateful for her dedicated healthcare professionals and all the support and resources from Cassie + Friends!
