15 FUNdraising activities that kids can use to support the Cassie + Friends community!

1. Yard Sale

You probably have a lot of items around your house that you’re no longer using. Why not sell them in a yard sale to raise money for kids? You can ask your friends and family to donate their items as well!

Be sure to post flyers around the community a couple days before the event and send out reminders to all your friends and family members

2. Mow Lawns

Ask your friends, family members, and neighbours if you can mow their lawns. You can even water their plants. If you need more customers, you can also spread the word about your fundraiser through social media, emails, and word of mouth.

All you need is your lawn mower and watering can!

3. Bottle Drive

Collect empty bottles and cans and return them to your local Return-It Depot. Pick a date and location for the bottle drive and in the weeks leading up to it put up flyers, start a social media page, use word-of -mouth and ask friends, family, and neighbours to save their empty bottles and cans. At the event, make sure that you have a sign explaining why you’re raising money and put out a container for donations.

4. Lemonade Stand

The most common way for kids to raise money is to set up a lemonade stand, but don’t let your creativity stop there! You can sell other food and drinks, such as baked goods, to raise money. Make sure that you have a sign that explains why you’re raising money and put out a container for tips or donations.

5. Car Wash

Plan a car wash on a warm sunny day in a location where you can set up the car wash station. Promote your event so your customers can leave with clean cars and you can leave with some money raised! Make sure that you have a sign that explains why you’re raising money and put out a container for tips or donations.

650/50

A 50/50 raffle is the perfect fundraiser to hold at a bigger event and the bigger the raffle, the better.

The more people who get involved in your 50/50 raffle, the more money is donated and the bigger the prize is for the winner! During the event where you decide to conduct your 50/50, you’ll need to go around and sell tickets to attendees. (You can offer discounted bundles of tickets.) Then, the money collected is split in half and the winning ticket holder gets half of the donated money and you get the rest.

All you need to get started is a roll of raffle tickets!

7. Silent Auction

Silent auctions are a fun way to get a little more face time with supporters while they bid on unique and appealing items up for grabs. Plus, if you find the right auction items, you have the potential to raise a lot of money!

Ask local businesses and individuals if they would like to donate items to your silent auction. Common items include gift cards to restaurants, signed memorabilia, lessons from a professional of some kind, gift baskets, and more!

8. Crowd Funding and direct outreach

Set up a fundraising page on a platform such as Chimp. Be sure to include information on who you are fundraising, what inspired you to start the page, and how much you would like to raise. Once the page it complete share it with your friends and family through email and social media. You can even ask them to share it with their networks. Be sure to follow-up with a “Thank-you” to all of your donors!

9. Kids’ Art Auction

An art auction is a perfect fundraiser to show off kids’ creative abilities!

Encourage kids in an art class to work hard and create paintings or pottery. Then, set up an art “gallery” to show off their work. Invite family and friends to come along and bid on their child’s artistic creation.

Make it an event by combining this fundraiser with others (like a BBQ or Pizza Party).

10. Dodge ball tournament

Dodge ball is a great and active way to raise money while inspiring competition.

Have individuals form teams and register to compete. The team with the most players left standing at the end of the round progresses to the next and so on, until one team wins the tournament. You can charge teams an entry fee and charge a fee at the door for spectators.

Hold a concession stand at your game and remember to set a time limit for each round of dodge ball so your event doesn’t last longer than an afternoon. Don’t forget to promote your event so you draw in the biggest crowd you can.

11. Pizza Party or Backyard BBQ

A backyard barbeque is the perfect summer fundraiser! Or if the weather isn’t quite right, try a pizza party. Ask a local grocery store or restaurant if they would donate the food.

You can charge a fee upon entry or for each burger/slice of pizza. This is a great way to bring everyone together and raise money! Don’t forget to set up a general donation jar, too!

12. Karaokee night

Raise money for your cause by hosting a night full of fun and singing. A karaoke night fundraiser is a simple idea once you’ve got the cooperation of a local restaurant.

If the restaurant doesn’t normally do karaoke, you’ll need to rent a machine. Invite all your friends, family, and community members to enjoy a night filled with good food and singing.

Ask the restaurant to donate a percentage of the night’s proceeds to your cause for a simple fundraising idea that’s fun to plan

13. Collecting clothes for consignment

Ask your friends and family to donate their old, but gently used, pieces of clothing. Once you have collected a good amount, find your local consignment shop and trade in the clothes for money to put towards your fundraiser.

14. Babysitting/Night out for Parents

Provide group babysitting in an auditorium or gym at a nominal rate ($10 – $25/child). Older students plan games, movies, crafts and other fun activity stations. Little kids have a blast with each other and with the BIG KIDS!

15. Shoe drive Fundraiser

Shoe drive fundraisers are the perfect fundraising idea for kids, and an ideal way to launch your fundraising. Kids are steadily growing, which means you need to continue buying them new clothes and shoes to try to keep up. Did you know you can trade their old shoes in for moola? You can also encourage classmates, friends, and family to do the same.

What happens to these shoes? Let’s start with the beginning of the fundraiser:

First, call on an organization like Funds2Orgs to start the fundraiser, they will drop off all of the collection supplies to gather as many shoes as you can from the community. Then you’ll make calls out to the community to clean out their closets to gather their old, gently worn, used, and new shoes for these collection boxes. Once the fundraiser is over, Funds2Orgs comes to collect the shoes to repurpose them.

You’ll receive a check in the mail depending on the weight of the bulk of shoes you gathered and donated.

We are proud to announce that the first $5,000 raised in 2019 by kids supporting the Cassie + Friends community will be doubled by our partners at the Kids Helping Kids Foundation!
